Simple Homemade Non-Dairy Hemp Milk



 

Hemp milk is a delicious dairy-free, nut-free, plant-based milk. It’s naturally light, nutty in flavor, and No soaking required, no straining , just hemp seeds and water! But feel free to add a little sweetener and vanilla extract for a tasty and fresh milk that’s ready to drink!

Hemp milk contains calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, riboflavin, niacin and thiamin. It even beats out cow’s milk in the calcium department with 8 ounces containing almost half of the recommended daily allowance of this essential mineral. Additionally, it supplies omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids along with fiber and vitamins C and A. Hemp milk is a good source of complete protein in that it contains all 10 essential amino acids. Also, it has NO known allergens. Many people looking for non-dairy milks overlook it in favor of almond or coconut but I think hemp blows the others away in all aspects!

Prep: 1 min        Cook Time: less than a minute          Total Time: 2 minutes 

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup raw hulled hemp seeds (hemp hearts)
  • 3~4 cups filtered water, the less water, the thicker and creamier the milk
  • Tiny pinch of sea salt to amplify flavor

Optional

  • 1 Tbsp. maple syrup, honey or 2-3 pitted dates
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:

    1. Add hemp seeds, water, salt, and any additional add-ins (optional) in a *high-speed blender
    2. Blend for 45~60 seconds or until the milk is nice and creamy. ( about 3~4 minutes in a regular blender)
    3. Optional step: strain using a fine sieve, tea strainer or nut milk bag. 
    4. Pour the hemp milk into a sealable glass container. 
    5. Place it into the fridge and store it for up to 5 days. 
    6. It will separate upon standing. Just shake before serving.
    Don’t throw away the precious hemp pulp that’s leftover from straining. This fiber-filled goodness will go great in oatmeal, smoothies or baking.

    For Optional Flavors:

    • Vanilla Hemp Milk: Add 2 tsp of vanilla and 1 tbsp of maple syrup, honey or 3 dates
    • Chocolate Hemp Milk: Add 1 tbsp cacao powder and 1 tbsp of maple syrup, honey or 3 dates
    • Matcha Hemp Milk: Add 1 heaped tbsp matcha and 1 tbsp of maple syrup, honey or 3 dates
    • Strawberry Hemp Milk: Add few fresh or frozen strawberries and 1 tbsp of maple syrup, honey or 3 dates
    • Almond Hemp Milk: Add a little almond extract and and 1 tbsp of maple syrup, honey or 3 dates
