Folded Kimbap Sandwich (Korean kimbap hack)


 By making simple ingredient swaps you can create whatever you want in minutes! It's much easier than making a kimbap roll and quicker as well!

There are many kimbap variations such as mayo-tuna, spam with fried kimchi or fried egg, Bulgogi, grilled pork belly, teriyaki chicken, Tonkatsu, Fried Tofu, smoked salmon, cheese.  And  It's all up to you and what you desire. Just divide the surface area into 4 parts based on the layer you want and place your toppings.

Ingredients:

  • 2 sheets of Nori
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1/8 tsp sesame oil
  • a pinch of salt
  • Pinch of toasted sesame seed
Spicy Kimbap Sandwich
  • 2 pieces of spam, fried
  • 2 Tbsp fried kimchi, home made or store bought
  • Romain lettuce
  • Perilla leaves
Tuna Mayo Kimbap Sandwich
  • 1 pack tuna in water
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp mayo
  • Perilla leaves
  • Lettuce
  • Cheese
Steps

  1. Season the warm cooked rice with sesame oil, sesame seeds.
  2. In a small bowl, add tuna, mayo, salt and mix well, set aside.
  3. In a pan over medium heat, fry the sliced spam until golden brown on each side, about 3-5 minutes each side. Remove and transfer to a plate.
  4. In the same pan over medium heat, add 1 tsp sesame oil, 1 tsp sugar and cook chopped kimchi until softened. Remove and transfer to a plate.
  5. Place your nori sheet rough side up. This allow for the toppings, especially that rice to stick to your sheet.
  6. Make a cut in the middle of the nori halfway.
  7. Place 1/4 cup of riceon top left corner and spread it thinly.
  8. Then 2 pieces of spam on top right corner, couple of Perilla leaves on the bottom right, and lettuce leaves on the left bottom corner.
  9. Fold your kimbap from the bottom left corner to top left, then right top, then to bottom.
  10. To slice it in half, wrap it in cling film tightly and cut with a sharp knife.
  11. Serve and enjoy!
